Confirm Jackson County Jail Release

The county says the roster is generated at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central and uploaded by 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. It is not real time. It also contains no promised 24-hour or 72-hour post-release window, so a missing name does not identify the event.

Jackson County Jail Release Records
Minnesota Statutes section 13.82, subdivision 2 identifies the central public fields for an adult arrest. The Sheriff's entry should be tied to one booking. Give the full name and, when known, the date of birth, booking range, case number, or incident number. The exact records-counter hours are not separately published. County administrative hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., so call before an in-person records visit. Jackson County Jail Custody Facts
Sheriff Shawn Haken's Jackson County Sheriff's Office operates the secure coed local jail. The 2025 MNDOC inspection lists 18 approved beds and an 80 percent operational calculation of 14.4. Its licensing authority shown in that report runs from September 1, 2025 through August 31, 2027. Capacity does not measure releases or the number of people currently held.
The facility handles short-term detention and local bookings. It is not an MNDOC prison. A city or state officer may bring an adult there without creating a separate city or state facility. Out-of-county boarding is also possible, which makes the controlling authority important when a person moves back to another jurisdiction.

Jackson County Jail Release Property
Minnesota Rule 2911.2525 requires itemized property inventory, secure storage, written rules for retained property, and a signed receipt for property held until release. The 2025 inspection sampled 18 files and found two without the required signed receipts. Corrective action was required.
No official online instruction states an after-release property pickup schedule, exit door, family waiting area, or transportation procedure. Call 507-847-4420 for the current process. Jackson County Jail Release Timing
Jackson County has not published a standard release hour, weekend method, holiday rule, exit location, or transportation plan for the jail. Court processing, bond completion, other holds, administrative steps, and the receiving authority can all affect the actual departure. A scheduled hearing or anticipated outcome is not a guaranteed exit time.
Call the jail before arranging a ride or waiting nearby. Staff can address current logistics without relying on a guessed schedule. For proof after the event, request the release timestamp and legal basis. If another authority took custody, also request the recipient and transfer details.

Jackson County Jail Replacement Status
The operating jail dates to 1976. Jackson County is constructing a replacement law-enforcement center on county-owned former Government Center East land. County materials describe a 24-bed jail within a $41.2 million project, with construction underway and completion anticipated in 2026. Those facts describe a project, not a second open detention facility.
Current jail and inspection sources still identify 400 Sherman Street as the operating address. Keep using that address, phone number, roster, and Sheriff's record process until the county formally opens and licenses the replacement and announces any roster migration. A building change should not erase older booking or release records. Historical Jackson County Jail events remain a request to the Sheriff's Office.
